I was most pleased to find this treasure. At the university he deals with anti-Semitism in the form jurnalull physical attacks, and a few years later he discovers that even the friends and colleagues he gets on with harbour deeply-rooted anti-Semitic feeling.

It’s hard to believe that this jurna,ul the first English translation of Sebastian’s gem of a novel. What it means to ‘belong’ to a nation, to a religion. Mihail Sebastian, born Iosif Hechter, was a Romanian playwright, essayist, journalist and novelist. I understood the ending with its ramblings on anti semitism as an eternal curse and the contrast between stay and eke out a living or leave for the unknown that is Palestine.
